NTMA Talks Top Shops
Speaker: Dave Tilstone, President National Tooling and Machining Association

Why is Top Shops Important for NTMA Members?
Top shops to the NTMA and the NTMA members is critically important to help our members understand how they compare to their peers and their competition. It's also critically important for them to understand what metrics are driving their businesses, how they compare to others and most importantly, where do they need improvement. Being a Top Shop obviously carries a lot of weight also with the supply chain. So, if a member, and we've been fortunate enough to have anywhere from a third to 50% of the Top Shops being NTMA members, additional business comes because one of the challenges a OEM tier 1 or tier 2 has is how do I know what the qualifications are of these potential suppliers.

Why Should NTMA Members Attend Top Shops?
Sometimes, when you're working inside your company and not on your company, you don't necessarily look at perhaps some metrics that would be more important than perhaps you've been led to believe. Could be percentage of automation. Could be as simple as machine uptime, how do you measure that, how do you collect it? Those would be some of the people that I think they would be interested in seeing.

The Top Shops seminar for an NTMA member is really the how to become a Top Shop. What are the critical elements to become a Top Shop, what's gonna be measured? How do they measure it? What kind of information is gonna be disclosed, and in that way even if they aren't a Top Shop, they'll come away understanding what are those aspects of the business that are critical and viewed by industry to be a Top Shop.
